Privacy Policy
People's Exchange ("we", "us") helps neighbors trade and give away everyday items. We collect as little as we can and we never sell your personal information.
What we collect
- Account: your email address (or phone number, if you sign in by text) so you can sign in with a one-time code. Other users never see it.
- Profile: the first name or nickname and neighborhood you choose, your star rating and number of completed trades. Other users can see these.
- Age and agreements: the date you confirmed you are 18 or older and accepted our Terms and Safety Pledge. We do not store your birth date.
- Posts and photos: what you need or have, and any photo you add. Photos are resized on your phone and their hidden location data (EXIF/GPS) is removed before upload.
- Trades, messages and ratings: trade offers, meetup choices, chat messages with the person you're trading with, and ratings.
- Approximate location (optional): if you tap "Use my location", we save your position rounded to about 1 km (0.6 mile) so we can show how far away posts are. Others only see a rounded distance like "~2 mi", never your location. You can turn this off in Settings.
- Safety reports and blocks you make.
- Advertising data (free version): our ad partner Google AdMob may collect device identifiers (such as Apple's IDFA or Google's Advertising ID, if you allow it), IP address, approximate location derived from IP, and ad interaction data to show and measure ads and prevent fraud. On iPhone we ask your permission before any tracking (App Tracking Transparency). You can say no and still use the app; you'll see less personalized ads.
- Purchases: if you subscribe to People's Exchange Plus, Apple or Google processes your payment. We (through RevenueCat) receive only your subscription status and an anonymous purchase ID, never your card details.
How we use it
To run the app: show posts, find trade matches, deliver messages, keep the community safe (moderating reports, enforcing rules), show ads in the free version, provide Plus, and fix bugs. We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers.
Who we share it with (service providers)
- Supabase (database, sign-in, photo storage, hosted in the U.S.).
- Google AdMob (ads in the free version; see How Google uses information from apps that use its services).
- RevenueCat, Apple and Google (subscriptions).
- Law enforcement only when legally required, or to protect someone from imminent harm.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account any time in Settings > Delete account. This permanently erases your profile, posts, photos, trades, messages and ratings. Reports you filed are kept without your name for safety records.
- Change your ad privacy choices in Settings > Privacy & ad choices, and on iPhone in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
- Turn location off in the app's Settings or your phone's settings.
- Residents of California, Nevada and other states may request access to or deletion of their data by emailing us. Nevada residents: we do not sell covered information.
Adults only
People's Exchange is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor is using the app, report it and we will delete the account.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and database rules make sure only the right people can see each piece of information (for example, only the two people in a trade can read its messages). No system is perfect; never share bank details, passwords or codes in chat.
